Krystal Uchem

Biography

Krystal Uchem is an actress born and raised in Alief, Texas. Krystal is a proud union member of the Actor’s Equity Association and was recently recognized as one of Houston’s top up-and-coming actors by the Houston Press. Her favorite acting credits include The Piano Lesson, Chicken & Biscuits, School Girls; or the African Mean Girls Play, Pipeline, and Permanent Collection. When Krystal is not on stage performing, she enjoys working as a costume designer. Krystal attended school at the University of Houston and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Design & Technology in 2018. Since launching a career as a costume designer, Krystal has received several awards and accolades for her design work. Her costume design credits include Nina Simone: Four Women, Trouble in Mind, Clyde’s, A Motown Christmas, The Watsons go to Birmingham, and more. Currently, Krystal is a fellow at The Ensemble Theatre in Houston, Texas, and works as the company’s production manager. Her fellowship is supported by the BOLD Theater Women’s Leadership Circle, a visionary initiative created to bridge the career gaps for women in American theater, which is funded by the Helen Gurley Brown Foundation.
