DERRICK MOORE
Biography
Derrick Moore is an award-winning filmmaker, producer, and actor based in Houston, Texas. A St. Louis
native, he is the founder of Moorflics, a creative production company committed to telling bold, visually
compelling stories rooted in African American history and culture. Under his leadership, Moorflics has
produced a slate of award-winning short films, documentaries, and branded content, with projects
recognized on the festival circuit and by industry institutions. His production work has been associated
with notable organizations including the NAACP Hollywood Bureau and Kahlil Joseph's visionary media
project, BLKNWS, in Los Angeles, California.
Moore began his journey in the arts as a theater actor at Alabama State University, where he was
mentored by a professor who helped shape his creative foundation. He later transferred to Norfolk State
University, earning his Bachelor of Arts in 2017, followed by a Master of Fine Arts from the University of
Houston. After time in New York and California, Moore launched Moorflics from a San Diego garage,
growing it into a company that blends cinematic craft with cultural depth.
As an actor, Moore is known for powerful performances across stage and screen. He starred in the
independent film In Contrast, now streaming on Amazon Prime, and has built a distinguished theater
résumé. His credits include "The Brother's Size" and "A Raisin in the Sun" at American Players Theatre,
"Choir Boy" at the National Black Theatre Festival, and "A Christmas Carol" and "The Tempest" with
Virginia Stage Company. He led the Atlanta premiere of The Brother's Size, and took on dynamic roles in
"Comedy of Errors" and "Hamlet" at the Houston Shakespeare Festival.
