ZACK FINE
Biography
Zack Fine is an actor, director, playwright, and teacher originally from Chicago, based in Brooklyn. He has taught in actor training programs throughout the country, most recently as faculty at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and currently he is Assistant Professor of Acting at University of Texas at Austin. He is a founding faculty member of the Fiasco Theater Company’s Conservatory Program and has taught workshops around the world. As an actor, he’s been nominated for several Helen Hayes Awards, winning in 2015 for his work in Fiasco Theater’s Two Gentlemen of Verona. Broadway credits include China Doll with Al Pacino. Off-Broadway credits include Red Bull, The Acting Company, The Mint Theater, Theater For A New Audience, Fiasco, and New York Classical Theater. Regionally, his credits include work at The Alley Theatre, The Guthrie, McCarter, Hudson Valley Shakespeare, Shakespeare Theater in DC, Arizona Theater Company, Folger, Playmakers Rep, Asolo Rep, Fulton, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, and Great River Shakespeare Festival. On TV, he’s appeared in Person of Interest, Blackbox (recurring), New Amsterdam, and FBI. As a writer, his work has been developed around the country at New York Stage and Film, Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, The Public, The Guthrie, MCC, among others. He was a 2024 UCROSS Fellow and a 2025 Eugene O’Neill National Music Theater Conference Finalist for his show Fathertime, created with and starring Tony Nominee Bryce Pinkham. His play, Bewilderness, was a Steinberg/Best New American Play nominee. His play, Dennis, is in development with the internationally acclaimed physical comedy troupe Spymonkey. As a director, he’s helmed works around the country as well as in Mexico, where he directed the world premiere of the first-ever Spanish translation of Timberlake Wertenbaker’s Our Country’s Good (El Bien Del Pais) which ran for two years in Mexico City and was nominated for numerous Premios (awards) in Best Production and Best Direction. Zack trained in clown and play in Paris at the renowned École du Philippe Gaulier and in New York City with Christopher Bayes, as well as with master teachers around the world. In 2020, Zack founded the company Recess (www.letsgotorecess.com) with his partner Arielle Yoder to help build community in the workplace through games and play. He holds a B.A. from Oberlin College in American History (Summa Cum Laude) and an MFA from the University of Tennessee.
