JONATHAN GONZALEZ

Biography

A New Mexico native, Jonathan has worked as a professional theater artist for the past 35 years. 

 

His first teaching job was with Western Stage in Salinas, and has since taught in over 50 schools and colleges, most notably in California as Education director at the Marin Shakespeare Co, and teacher/manager at San Francisco Shakespeare Festival and Marin Theater Company. 

 

He is currently the Education Director for Main Street Theater, where he went to China to lead workshops and run professional development workshops.He founded Peer to Peer Shakespeare and the Summer Teen Shakespeare program, now in it's 17th year. The summer camps he runs serve over 1500 students annually. He also currently is the drama specialist at Westside and Kingwood Montessori schools.

 

His teaching philosophy is "Creativity and collaboration" with the teaching artist serving as a mentor in a performing arts playground to help students find their own unique voice through the art of theater.

 

As an actor, Jonathan was an equity artist in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 20 years, appearing as   Sir Mammon in The Alchemist at Berkeley Rep, Iago in Othello at San Francisco Shakespeare, and multiple seasons at the Marin, Stinson , and Windsor  Shakespeare Companies.  Here in Houston, he has been seen as George in  and who is afraid of Virginia Wolfe, Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire, Prospero in the Tempest, the title role in Macbeth, and most recently Pickering in My Fair Lady with Stoic theater among others . Favorite directing projects include 12th Night, Much Ado About Nothing,   Marisol, and Hamlet.
