Acting for Young Performers - Spring 26

*Late registration allowed - contact studioforactorhouston@gmail.com to register* Acting for Young Performers February 14 - May 2, 2026 [12 weeks] Saturdays, 1-3pm Instructor: Adrienne Shearer Give your young actor a place to grow, create, and build confidence. Young performers can train real acting skills, creative confidence, and the ability to work as part of an ensemble, all while having a great time. Skill Building That Feels Like Play Every class begins with energetic physical, vocal, and mental warm-ups that help students: -Feel comfortable in their bodies -Use their voices with confidence -Stay focused, present, and ready to create From there, students explore professional acting techniques through engaging, age appropriate exercises inspired by: -Imagination and character transformation work -Movement based character exploration -Ensemble and partner building activities Real Scene Work (Like Young Professionals) After building a strong foundation, students are assigned: -Scene partners -Assigned scenes -Ongoing rehearsal time each week They learn how to: -Develop believable characters -Listen and respond truthfully -Take direction and feedback This mirrors the real rehearsal process actors use in theatre and film, in a supportive environment designed just for young artists. Confidence Through Collaboration Acting here is taught as a team art form. Students learn: -Respect for others’ ideas -How to give and receive feedback -How to take creative risks safely The focus is on process over perfection. We help students grow into: ✔ Confident performers ✔ Creative problem solvers ✔ Expressive communicators At the end of the semester, families and friends are invited to a showcase performance! It’s a celebration of their growth, courage, and creative work. Perfect For Students Who: -Love theatre, film, or storytelling -Want to build confidence speaking and performing -Are curious, imaginative, and ready to try something new INSTRUCTOR: Jacqueline Vasquez is a Houston-based teaching artist and performer. She holds a BA in Music and Theatre from Texas Christian University, where she developed strong skills in musical theatre. As a performer, she has worked mostly at the REC Room, having recently played Anna in Spring Awakening, and been involved in readings of new plays. As a passionate teacher, she works at the Alley Theatre’s STEM program to help create spaces where imagination, discovery, and emotion can thrive. *$450 signup after Feb 21
