Acting I - Section E

Description

Acting I - Section E October 18 - November 8, 2026 (4 weeks) Sundays - 4:30-6:30pm (2 hours) Instructor: Kory LaQuess Pullam Student Limit: 14 Cost: $225 Acting I is an exercise-based exploration of the actor’s fundamental tools. Sections D, E, and F continue the work begun in A, B, and C, taking actors further into the process of discovering truthful, specific, and compelling behavior. Section E focuses on CHARACTER, RELATIONSHIP & STORY. A character does not exist in isolation. Every character belongs to a world, has a history, wants something from someone, and is changed by what happens around them. In this section, actors will use improvisation and character-based exercises to explore how relationships, circumstances, secrets, desires, conflicts, and personal histories shape behavior and drive a story forward. Students will create and inhabit characters within imagined circumstances, developing greater specificity and emotional connection while learning to remain responsive to their scene partners. Improvisations will become increasingly story-driven, asking actors to make choices that reveal character while also serving the larger narrative. The work will emphasize listening, relationship, stakes, point of view, status, conflict, discovery, and the actor’s ability to remain present as circumstances change. Actors will learn to trust the story while also contributing their own imagination and humanity to it. The goal is to move beyond simply “playing a character” and toward understanding how a character lives inside a story—and how truthful human behavior is what makes that story compelling. [Acting I sections are divided into different topics but do not have to be taken in any particular order. Acting I Section E is open to all skill levels] * This class is for adults 18 and above. Payment plans are available with a $100 non-refundable deposit. If interested in this option, simply contact us at studioforactorshouston@gmail.com to make arrangements.
