College Prep: The Classical Monologue With Vivian Majkowski November 14 & 21, 2026 (2 weeks) Saturdays - 2:00-6:00pm (4 hours) Instructor: Vivian Majkowski Student Limit: 16 Cost: $185 Having a strong, well-executed classical monologue is essential for your college audition package. Even well versed actors can gain significant benefit from coaching with a skilled vocal coach. Vivian Majkowski leads text and voice programming at the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance. She will lead actors to more clarity and command of their classical monologues, offering an array of tools, tips and strategies to develop clear, dynamic and effective monologues with classical text. Whether you are relatively new to classical material, or are experienced with it, you'll benefit from her expertise. Don't take unnecessary chances with your college auditions. Get the help you need and make a strong impression. Part 1: Finding the Monologue Bring in several of your ideas for 60 second to 2 minute Classical Monologues for Auditions. I'll bring in resources, plays, and audition monologue materials. We'll get them up on their feet and all help each other find an audition piece or two and cut them to the appropriate time. And remember: The Classical Monologue doesn't always have to be Shakespeare! Let's explore many options (including the Bard). Part 2: Prepping the Monologue Classical monologues require strong text work and sometimes scansion. Come with your cut piece(s) and let's dive into the text and be ready for any questions your auditor has about your given circumstances, analysis, and character. And be ready for the next college prep courses with a great classical piece to work! INSTRUCTOR Vivian Majkowski is the Voice and Speech professor at the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance. She received her MFA from Harvard University and has taught voice extensively at Harvard, University of Colorado, Savannah College of Art and Design.
