Creative Filmmaking February 17 - March 10, 2026 (4 weeks) Tuesdays - 7:00-9:00pm Instructor: Joe Grisaffi Student Limit: 12 Cost: $240 Making your first film can feel overwhelming: knowing where to begin, what matters most, and how to move from idea to execution. This class is designed to give emerging filmmakers the clarity, tools, and confidence needed to take that first step, whether you’re creating a short film or preparing for a feature. Award-winning filmmaker Joe Grisaffi brings over 30 years of experience working in Houston’s independent film scene and has firsthand knowledge of every stage of the process. His micro-budget feature films—including Laughing Boy, Dead of Knight, Conjoined, and Lars the Emo Kid—demonstrate what’s possible with strong storytelling, smart preparation, and limited resources. In this class, we’ll break down the essential elements of filmmaking from a practical, real-world perspective. Topics include preproduction and planning, casting, camera placement, lighting, securing locations, and working efficiently with a minimal crew. The focus is on making informed creative choices and developing a workflow that allows you to complete your film with confidence and intention. By the end of the course, you’ll have a clear understanding of the filmmaking process and the foundation needed to move forward on your first project with purpose and momentum.
