Musical Theatre for Teens Section C October 25 - November 15. 2026 Sundays - 2:00-4:00pm Teens 12-18 Instructor: DJ Hale Cost: $240 Build the skills to bring songs and stories to life. This dynamic class helps teens grow their confidence as performers while developing strong acting and vocal technique specific to musical theatre. Students will train in character development, vocal performance, and emotional storytelling. Learn how to connect deeply to the music and communicate authentically with an audience. Through a mix of scene work, song performance, and improv exercises, participants will strengthen both their individuality and ensemble skills. What Students Will Learn: Text & Character Work: Explore subtext, motivations, and relationships within musical theatre scenes Vocal Technique: Build breath control, projection, and clear articulation for the stage Scene-to-Song Transitions: Create seamless, natural shifts from dialogue into singing Improv & Creativity: Enhance spontaneity and confidence through guided exercises Ensemble Training: Develop stage presence, listening skills, and teamwork in group numbers Performance Feedback: Learn how to connect with audiences and sustain energy onstage Repertoire Building: Select and prepare audition material tailored to each student’s strengths Musical Exploration: Work with both classic and contemporary musical theatre pieces Perfect for teens interested in musical theatre, whether they’re just starting out or looking to refine their performance skills. Students will leave with stronger technique, greater confidence, and material ready for auditions. Student Pre-Requisites: 2 Contrasting Songs (Can be Traditional Musical Theatre, Pop/Rock, Country, R&B, Jazz or Gospel) cut in the 64 bar style. (Approximately 1 min and 30 seconds) The final class includes a student showcase performance from 4-5pm. INSTRUCTOR DJ Hale (he/him/his) is a Houston-based multi-hyphenate teaching artist with strong roots in the performing arts. With degrees from the University of Texas and Texas Christian University, he is an active performer in the Houston metroplex both as an actor and a professional high baritone. He has performed with The Garden Theatre, Stageworks, Theatre Southwest, Pearl Theatre, Pasadena Little Theatre, CAST Theatrical, Laredo Theatre Guild International, Laredo College Opera Workshop, and Laredo Institute for Theatrical Education. He is also Director of Orchestras at South Houston High School.
