SFAH Summer Film Studio Ages 12-18 July 27 - August 8, 2026 Monday - Friday, 9:00am-3:00pm Instructor: Byron Franco Cost: $545 Designed for students with a serious interest in filmmaking, this two-week summer intensive offers young artists a deep dive into the fundamentals of making movies. Led by experienced film professionals, this course will provide training and focus on building skills like script writing, camera work, lighting, editing, acting, and production management. Week 1 will dive into the fundamentals through guided exercises in writing, preproduction, cinematography, directing actors, and editing. Week 2 will focus on creating real projects created by the students with guidance from the instructor. Students will work closely with teaching artists in a focused, supportive environment that encourages creative exploration and artistic growth. The summer session will culminate in a showcase of short film projects created by the students. Ideal for students who are passionate about filmmaking and eager to train like a pro, this camp is both challenging and inspiring. Space is limited to ensure individualized attention. Early registration is recommended. Monday-Friday - July 27-July 31 - 9am-3p, Monday-Friday - Aug 3-Aug 7 - 9am-3pm Saturday, August 8 - 11am-5pm - (Screening @ 3pm) INSTRUCTOR Byron Franco is a filmmaker/actor with over 10 years experience in the Houston film industry. He cofounded In the House Media, a Houston production company which has created over 30 short films and comedy sketches. In addition to writing/directing over 10 short films, he as worked as a cinematographer, gaffer, sound technician, and editor for numerous productions throughout his career. Recent projects he's worked on have been accepted to film festivals such as Cinefestival San Antonio, Pearland Film Festival, and Houston Cinema Arts Filmmaker Showcase.
