Worldbuilding is one of the most important steps in creating powerful stories in any genre. This 5-week course provides a clear understanding of how to identify where your story takes place and what makes it specific and unique. By the end of the course, students will complete the first 10-15 pages of a play or a fully realized excerpt of a work in progress, with a clearly defined world, compelling + active characters, and intentional, playable dialogue. Explore elements, such as: • Defining Place • Environment and Style • Character Profiles • Dialogue as Action • Subtext • Rhythms • Beats • Turns • Reversals • Urgency • Stakes • Opposition Create compelling stories that want a life beyond the page. Instructor Info comfort ifeoma katchy is a playwright, actor, dramaturg and educator who received her MFA in Playwriting from the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University, and is a recipient of the ASCAP Cole Porter Prize in Playwriting, and numerous honors for her work as a playwright.
