Writing Successful Screenplays July 1 - July 22, 2026 Wednesdays - 7:00-9:00pm Instructor: Michelle Mower Student Limit: 25 Cost: $240 This comprehensive screenwriting course is designed to guide writers from initial concept to a market-ready screenplay, with a practical focus on both selling and producing your work. Students will learn how to develop compelling ideas into strong loglines, synopses, treatments, and outlines before moving into the writing process. The course breaks down the fundamentals of cinematic storytelling, including three-act story structure while reinforcing the importance of writing visually and economically for the screen. Through focused lessons on action and dialogue, students will learn how to avoid common pitfalls and craft authentic, engaging scripts. In addition to the craft of writing, the course emphasizes professional discipline and workflow, encouraging students to write consistently and approach their work with a professional mindset. Participants will engage in script analysis and peer feedback sessions, gaining valuable insight into both giving and receiving constructive criticism. The course also addresses the art of rewrites and provides strategies for strengthening drafts. Finally, students will learn the basics of protecting their work, including copyright and Writers Guild registration. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid foundation in screenwriting, a clearer understanding of the industry landscape, and tangible progress on a screenplay ready for the next stage—whether that’s pitching, selling, or producing.
