Our Acting for Teens Spring session has just ended, and we couldn't be more proud of our students and instructors.
At Studio for Actors Houston, our Acting for Teens program is designed for young artists who want to grow not just as performers, but as confident, expressive individuals. Through a structured, process driven approach, students develop technique, creativity, and a deeper understanding of storytelling.

What to Expect in a Teen Acting Class
A typical class begins with gathering together for a warm-up. While this may vary from day to day, it primarily includes physical, vocal, and mental exercises designed to help actors become flexible, present, and open to the work ahead.
From there, students move into technique and structured exercises, exploring a range of respected acting methodologies. These may include:
Uta Hagen based exercises
Chekhov technique
Animal work and physical transformation
Group-based exploratory practices
Students are encouraged to engage actively, share discoveries, and learn through both practice and observation.

Scene Work and Collaboration
Throughout the course, students focus on scene work as a central component of their training.
The class begins with several weeks dedicated to building confidence, grounding, and technical awareness through exercises. Once that foundation is established, students are assigned:
Scene partners
Scripted material
Ongoing rehearsal objectives
They continue developing these scenes together over the duration of the program, working both in and outside of class to deepen their performances.
A Process-Driven Approach to Acting
Our teaching philosophy centers on the idea that acting is a collaborative, curiosity driven craft.
Rather than focusing on perfection, we emphasize:
Exploration and risk-taking
Listening and responsiveness
Authentic emotional connection
Individual artistic voice
Students are guided to grow not only in skill and technique, but into confident, unique, and truthful storytellers.
End of Course Showcase
Students will participate in a final showcase, where they presented:
The scenes they have developed
Selected exercises refined throughout the course
This provides a meaningful opportunity to share their work, demonstrate growth, and experience the full arc of the creative process.
